Almost four years after Pakistani actor Veena Malik announced retirement from Mecca, she is taking the Indian route to re enter the film space. Punjabi film, Deyo Wadhaiyan Sada Vii Viah Hogaya, will see Veena,who shot to fame in India through Bigg Boss, paired opposite Punjabi singer, actor Inderjit Nikku. The character is that of a simple girl, and something which will showcase Veena’s acting talent and not skin.
However, the film release is delayed as moviemakers look for a free Friday slot to give it a larger shelf life. “The project is almost complete. We might roll out promotions soon. Since many Punjabi films were releasing, we decided to wait for a good time,” says director Harpreet Matharoo. Veena has already featured in three Punjabi fums, Pind Di Kudi, Mohabbattaan Suchiyaan (Pakistani film) and Jatts The actor had famously become controversial as a Bigg Boss contestant, be it because of her steamy scenes, a linkup with Ashmit Patel, and being sentenced to prison by a Pak court for blasphemy.
Though she had declared leaving Pakistani and Indian films in 2014, sources say it took her time to decide on her comeback. The actor did not stay off camera completely and had been hosting shows, award functions in Dubai and Pakistan in all these 4 years.Film’s lead actor Rai Jujhar who’s doing a second Punjabi project,spoke about Veena’s character as,”She is the third actress in the film.The other two are Delhi girl Sakshi Maggo (Welcome Back fame) and Yuvleen Kaur I play the character of Lakhveer Singh Lakha.
Veena’s role is vital and the film is a story of two friends, Nikku and I, and their lives.”Adds Rai who debuted with Veeran Naal Sardari in 2014, “Veena is a nice person, we discussed a lot about the Punjabi cuture and similarities between India and Pakistan.” Says Harpreet, fuck me daddy also a debut director “It took us time to have Veena onboard, and we started planning in late 2016. Visa processing was also tedious, but Veena managed to get city-specific visa for Patiala, Chandigarh and Khanna.
We hadvto cancel our plan to shoot with herin Shimla due to no relaxation in the visa.” Veena’s sequence in the film is of more than half an hour.”Apart from India, we shot with her in Dubai too,” he says HOPEFUL OF A PAK RELEASE The project has a message of friendship and peace and the filmmakers, by having Veena, are looking to tap the Pakistani film market. The director confirmed that they are aiming at sending the film to Pak censor for clearance and release in that country.
